"Whatever the sport, there is always color and rhythm….we are called to be a part of the athletic dance."

I was once again honored to be asked by The Denver Hospice to paint another mask for The Mask Project. This one is called a Celebrity Mask as it was signed by author Robert Lipsyte and sports commentator Bob Costas.

With two signatures to work around, I decided to include a quote from each. The painting itself represents the colors of the Olympic Rings and many of the sports we all enjoy through the year.

I was invited by the Denver Hospice to participate in "The Mask Project" which benefits the hospice in their care of cancer patients. The 3D mask is ceramic and I asked my hubby to router out a cavity in a piece of wood to set the mask in....then I came up with the following piece. Hope you like it...

“ENGAGE” ~ This painted mask is a tribute to all who have had to reach deep within and bring forth their inner beast to “Engage” in a fight against cancer. As a cancer survivor, I understand the ups and downs, the uncertainty, the whirlwind of emotions, and the battle. The strength I found within surprised and amazed me. If anyone you know is in a battle with cancer, encourage them to unleash their inner beast and “Engage”.

Mingan (pronounced MEEN gahn) is a Native American name meaning Gray Wolf. The word/name was first used by the Canadian Algonquin Indians and was then adapted by many Indian Nations as a boys name. The gray wolf (or timber wolf) has been through many challenges for survival. This magnificent creature is a beautiful symbol of strength and courage. It felt honorable painting him!!

Sigh......I can't believe we just crossed over into November! Time is marching on and I'm standing still...I can't seem to get the motivation necessary to get things accomplished. Oh, I've painted a few things but I'm overwhelmed with things that still need to be done......

I feel like I haven't painted in forever.... Of course, that isn't the case, but it does feel that way. I have been busy creating a new web site and trying to get myself more organized in my studio. Okay, so truth be told, there hasn't been enough organization to get me out of the dole drums I've been feeling. If I could hire someone to do all this for me, I most certainly would!!

I guess I'm just like everyone else.....I want it all organized now and I don't want to spend all my time getting it that way!!! Sigh....where is the magic wand when you need it??

There is a group on Facebook called: "The Painted Bra Art Project" As you can tell by the name, the object of this group is to support the fight against breast cancer by getting people to paint a bra.

The one pictured is my contribution and is called "Cups In Flight" because it sports a butterfly and hummingbird. High Above Denver....

High above Denver sits a wonderful home on Squaw Mountain. The 240 degree views are breathtaking and the wild life is abundant. This home boasts of a fabulous art studio, a cozy atmosphere, two wonderful dogs, and the Best people you'd ever want to meet! This slice of heaven is owned by artists John and Wrenn Boulton.

This past weekend the Boulton's hosted a wonderful two-day workshop taught by Aurora, Colorado artist Carol Nelson. We were exposed to thinking and creating paintings outside the box with things such as torched foil paper, painted and ironed tyvek paper, bits of lace, different colored sand, and painted aluminum foil. And these items were just to name a few!!

A wonderfully cohesive group of women from near and far gathered to experience and learn the many techniques Carol had up her sleeve. Carol's enthusiasm, experience, and love of art was contagious and everyone had a great time during this learning process.

We were also treated to delicious baked goodies in the mornings and wonderful lunches brought to us by Wrenn's sister Jeannie. Then at the end of each day we gathered to sip a glass of wine and talk about what we learned and share our thoughts for the day.

This is the most wonderful workshop I have ever attended. If you ever have the chance to be in one of Carol's workshops, sign up immediately....you will love it. AND, if you ever have the opportunity to visit John and Wrenn's wonderful home and studio, do it....you'll be inspired and motivated.

Oh, and don't even think about moving in with them to cook and clean for the privilege of living there....that spot is already taken.... by ME!!

Time to check in and let you all know that we're having the time of our lives in New York!! I've posted a few pictures on my Facebook page so if you get over there, I hope you enjoy them. This week has gone by so fast!! We still have a couple more days to explore and take in the sights and sounds of this amazing city.

Last night was the Opening of my art exhibition.... what a wonderful evening. Sipping champagne, mingling, visiting....

Forced To.....

Sigh....well, seems the time has come that my paintings are going to have to have the ugly copyright mark!! I came across a site today that was actually downloading my image to people. They didn't have permission to do that. I don't know if they were charging anything, but they should have asked me first!!

I've also learned that there are some programs that can actually remove the copyright mark so we'll see how all this works out. I'm going to play with it and maybe try and make it lighter....yet still prominent enough to hopefully protect my paintings.

If any of you have some suggestions for me, I would welcome them. God Bless!!

Whenever I come across a piece of glass like this red vase, my heart pounds a little harder. This is a hand blown piece that is truly a one-of-a-kind!! Many pieces have a painted on coating of color...not this piece....the glass is red through and through. What a treasure I've found!! Minimal painting seemed to suit this vase.... Counting Down

The countdown to my art exhibition is Really on now. Yesterday my canvases were shipped to New York for the May Exhibition. I'm feeling a big relief to know that they are finally on their way...now to keep the nerves intact until I get notice they've been delivered safely...

Not knowing what the weather is in New York City the early part of May, I'm seesawing between two outfits to wear to the Champagne Opening on May 5th!! Sigh....guess I'll just have them both at the ready and make a very last minute decision (typical for me). While I'm in the seesawing mode, I suppose I'd better figure out what I'll be wearing the rest of the time while in the Big Apple!!

Its probably time for me to get in the studio....I have several commissioned items I need to work on! Until next time......

I'm so excited about my upcoming Art Exhibition at the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in New York City. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the Chelsea Art District is a place I'm anxious to explore. Time is running out on getting more canvases ready, so the decision of which ones to ship for the Exhibition is almost upon me.

The painting posted here (Garden Parrot) is going to stay in my private collection, but will be used on the invitation postcards for the Opening Gala on Thursday, May 5th.

Besides the decision of which paintings to exhibit, I have even more pressing decisions....which outfit do I wear to the Opening!!! The one that has sparkles and is mature ... or the one that makes the statement: Now, she is an artist!! Guess I'll have to take them both, visit the gallery ahead of time, and then see which one fits the surroundings.

An Artist's Thoughts

Lately I've been thinking about how at times my paintings almost paint themselves and at other times it is a struggle. Not being sure what causes one situation or the other, I'm trying to remember to make note of where my emotions are and how relaxed I'm feeling during my studio time. Whether this is helpful in the long run, who knows. Guess time will tell...until I perceive I've found the answer, I guess I'll just continue throwing paint at the canvases and see what turns up!! Cheers.

The Things A Blogger Must Do

If you've been here before, you'll have noticed that the look of my Gallery Blog is changing. What used to be black is now blue and white. What used to be dark is now light. I don't know if I'm satisfied with what I've done so far, but you can bet this isn't the last change or update.

I need to "live" with this look for a few days before I decide if I like it or not. My biggest concern is whether or not my art work is shown in the best possible light.

My studio has been like a bee hive the last couple of days. I've been working on paintings for a two day show this weekend (show is at Lewis Palmer High School in Monument, Colorado). Between that and working on canvases for the "Daily Painters of Colorado" blog I haven't had much time to get a new piece ready for this blog.

I think writing something ever so often instead of posting a painting is a good change of pace. I will try and come up with things that are interesting and/or thought provoking.
